Kudankulam: Cops, anti-nuke activists face off
December 10, 2012  11:49
Rediff.com's Ganesh Nadar reporting from the thick of action in Kudankulam says Tirunelveli SP Vijayendra Bidari is personally leading the police on foot in riot gear, but no guns... so far. The situation is extremely tense and confrontation between protestors and the police is imminent.
Earlier, the Anti-Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project Struggle Committee convener S.P. Udayakumar escaped in a fishing boat. The Nuclear Energy Generation and Protection Committee in September had demanded the arrest the anti-nuclear activist and urged the government to implement the High Court order to commission units I and II of the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) in Tirunelveli. Church bells had been ringing to get the villagers to assemble and chart out the next course of action.
