A cold wave is sweeping through most of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, leaving local residents distressed.

The minimum temperature recorded in the night was zero degrees Celsius in Kullu district of the state and a common sight was people sitting around bonfires wearing woollens, to warm themselves.

Recent snowfall and rains have intensified the cold conditions in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh.

"From the time there the upper regions received snowfall and we received rains, the temperature has dipped," said Naresh Thakur, a resident of Kullu.

The cold wave turned to be a boon for the roadside tea vendors as people were seen sipping hot tea.

In Srinagar, temperatures dipped drastically and Dal Lake was covered with a thick blanket of fog.
