Coal-gate now has BJP in a Catch-22 situation

The BJP's demand for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation following the CAG's Rs 1.86 lakh crore coal scam expose is as much about politics playing out inside the party as it is about the misdemeanours of the UPA.

The party has left no route for itself to retreat and to that extent Advani, who wants an early election, possibly before Narendra Modi can hit the national stage next year after the Gujarat elections, seems to be the only one who is setting the political agenda with others forced to react.
