Heavy rain in Rajasthan kills 14, schools shut

Heavy rains continued to wreck havoc in many parts of Rajasthan and normal life in state capital Jaipur has been brought to a standstill.

The death toll climbed to 14 in Jaipur and schools stayed shut.

The state capital reported its heaviest rainfall in over three decades on Wednesday. It didn't rain late on Wednesday night though.

Authorities have decided to shut primary schools for the second day in a row. Roads in many areas of the city caved in and many areas remained waterlogged and rail traffic was affected as well.

Around 20,000 people have been asked to move to safer places from low lying areas.

The Army has been put on alert and the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Haryana BS Hooda have offered assistance to the Gehlot government.
