23:54   1 gunman may still be inside Wisconsin Gurudwara
CNN reports: Some people are believed to be trapped inside the Sikh temple of Wisconsin, and at least one gunman may still be inside, Alderman Dan Jakubczyk told CNN.

"As far as I know, it is still an active situation," Jakubczyk said.

Carolyn Bellin, a spokeswoman for Milwaukee's Froedtert Hospital, said one of two men brought there from the incident was in surgery early Sunday morning, while the other was in the surgical intensive care unit.

23:46   Shooting inside Gurudwara in Wisconsin

About 8 to 20 people have been reportedly injured in a shooting that took place at a Gurudwara in Wisconsin, United States.

The shooting occurred at around 11 am (local time) at the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel reported.

Oak Creek police, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department and other law enforcement agencies have responded.

21:18   Ramdev asks Sonia to rein in Cong leaders
As he prepares for his indefinite protest with a three-day "self introspection" preceding it, yoga guru Ramdev today asked Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to rein in party leaders accusing them of crossing limits and warned against any conspiracy to damage his agitation.
 
He said he is going to the birthplace of Sardar Vallabhai Patel in Gujarat where he will spend the next three days for "self introspection".
 
"Frightened over the agitation from August 9, some leaders of the Congress are making statements which are beyond any decency. I request Sonia Gandhi to rein them in," he said in a statement.
 
Ramdev, who will be sitting on protest at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi from where he was bundled out last year during an indefinite protest against blackmoney, also said his protest will be non-violent.

20:03   Team Anna discusses forming political alternative
Team Anna members met in New Delhi on Sunday for the first time after they ended their indefinite fast and discussed strategy for evolving a political alternative in line with their plans to take a plunge in electoral politics.
 
Anna Hazare and his close aides deliberated on a variety of issues, including the name of the organisation, and other formalities like the Constitution of the party, sources said.
 
Besides Hazare, those who attended the meeting included Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Kiran Bedi, Prashant Bhushan, Shanti Bhushan, Kumar Vishwas and Sanjay Singh.
 
Psephologist Yogendra Yadav, who was a regular face at the Jantar Mantar during the protest arguing that the movement should take a political turn, was the new participant in the discussions. There was no official word on the meeting.
 
The meeting came two days after Hazare and his aides called off their indefinite fast and pitched for entering electoral politics by forming a political alternative.
 
"This was an informal meeting. We came here to thank Anna and enquire about his health," Bedi told reporters.

18:56   'Rs 30 cr for CCTVs in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad'
A day after NCP chief Sharad Pawar criticised the functioning of the state Home Department, Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar today reviewed the security scenario in Pune and declared that Rs 30 crore will be made available to set up CCTVs in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities.
 
Ajit Pawar, who is the Guardian Minister of Pune, met ATS Chief Rakesh Maria, Pune Police Commissioner Gulabrao Pol and other top police and administrative officers to take stock of the security situation after the serial blasts in Pune last Wednesday.
 
The meeting took place in the government guest house in Pune city. Home Minister R R Patil was not present at the meeting.

18:06   Many rivers above danger mark in North India

Incessant rain lashed parts of North India today where many rivers were running above the danger mark even as the toll due to the heavy downpour in Uttarakhand reached 34.
 
The capital Delhi recorded a maximum of 35.5 degrees celsius, two more than normal and a minimum of 27.5 degrees celsius, one more than the usual. The city received 0.8 mm of rain.
 
Major rivers in Uttar Pradesh have crossed the danger mark as monsoon remained active over the state bringing continuous rainfall in many areas. Rivers like Sharda and Ghagra have crossed the danger mark due to which flood looms large in various parts, official sources said in New Delhi.
 
According to the report of the Central Water Commission, Sharda is flowing one meter above the danger mark at Palliakalan (Kheri) while Ghagra is flowing above the mark at Elgin Bridge (Barabanki), Ayodhya (Faizabad) and Turtipar
(Ballia).

16:36   Gujarat on high alert after IB's terror warning

Gujarat has been put on high alert in wake of Intelligence Bureau's warning of a possible terror strike in the state, after the Pune blasts, a top police official said in Ahmedabad today.

"High alert is in force in the state and will remain till August 15. With IB inputs and festival season round the corner security has been beefed up in the state," the police official told PTI on condition of anonymity.
 
"A close vigil is being maintained at all the vital installations," he said.

15:07   Al Qaeda suicide bombing kills 42 in Yemen

A suicide bombing in a south Yemen town recently recaptured by the army from Al Qaeda forces killed 42 people and wounded 37, hospital and local government sources said on Sunday.

The bomber struck on Saturday in Jaar, one of a string of towns in Abyan province that were retaken by government troops in June after being held by Al Qaeda loyalists for more than a year.

14:30   Three killed in blast in southwest Pakistan
At least three people, including a woman, were killed and 12 others injured by a powerful explosion on the outskirts of Quetta city of southwest Pakistan today, officials and witnesses said.
 
The blast occurred in Faizabad area of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province.
 
Several children were among the injured.
 
Officials said a preliminary investigation had suggested that the explosives were hidden in a car parked inside a compound.

Former Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor today said trade with Pakistan would help India create a strong constituency for peace in the neighbouring country. 

"Trade with Pakistan is going to be very good for us because if we can give Pakistan capital and interest in selling their goods in India... it will become a peace constituency in Pakistan." "So, through peace and progress, we can develop constituency for us in Pakistan," he added. 

Tharoor was replying to a question by veteran actor Anupam Kher during the panel discussion after the launch of his book 'Pax Indica: India and the World of the 21st Century'.

00:27   Cong-NCP coordination panel meets after standoff
At the first meeting of their coordination committee after the recent standoff, ruling allies Congress and NCP in Maharashtra tonight decided to hold regular monthly meetings of the panel to iron out differences. 

"All is well," state NCP chief Madhukar Pichad said after the meeting. The meeting was held in a positive atmosphere, he said adding it was decided to hold a meeting of the committee every month. 

Various contentious issues were discussed at the meeting, NCP sources said. A discussion on providing relief to drought and flood- affected in the state was held, they said. The issue of carrying out surveys to assess the damage in drought-affected areas was also taken up at the meeting, MPCC chief Manikrao Thakre said.
