Chidambaram's son to sue Swamy over allegations

Home minister P Chidambaram's son Karthi is likely to sue Subramaniam Swamy over his allegation that he made Rs 26 lakh out of a deal with Aircel. Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy had yesterday levelled fresh allegations against Chidambaram, accusing him of delaying permission for the sale of Aircel to Malaysia-based Maxis in 2006 when he was Finance Minister so that his son Karti was financially benefited.

Swamy says that in 2005, telecom company Aircel was verging on bankruptcy.  Its then owner, C Sivasankaran, was approached by Maxis, which wanted to pick up 74% stake in Aircel for nearly 4,000 crores, according to Swamy.  He says that this deal needed clearance from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board. "Chidambaram delayed the deal because he wanted a cut - this is my allegation," Swamy at a press conference yesterday. When the deal went through, Swamy says, Karti Chidambaram made considerable profits.
