Our New Delhi correspondent reports that Economic Affairs Secretary R Gopalan, a 1976 batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, has been given an extension of three months beyond his date of superannuation of April 30 pending Parliament's approval of the Finance Bill.

The Rajasthan cadre IAS officer Pradeep Kumar Deb of the 1977 batch was on Tuesday appointed the Sports Secretary in the vacancy caused by Sindhushree Khullar moving on as Secretary in the Planning Commission early this month.

The other appointment cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Appointments headed by the Prime Minister is of Nita Chawdhury, who became the Youth Affairs Secretary with the vacancy of A K Upadhyay.
