Heavy rainfall hampers rescue operations

In Sikkim, heavy rainfall has been hampering rescue operations. At least 2000 people have been sheltered in tents in Gangtok, even as the city and Darjeeling go without electricity on second day.

The army and the Border Roads Organisation are trying to open the Siliguri-Gangtok road, which has been blocked by landslides.

The only good news from the incident is that no dams have been affected in the area.
