On the Wall Street Journal's India Real Time blogs: Rajinikanth's son-in-law Dhanush said he wrote the lyrics to 'Kolaveri Di' while he was bored on the set of '3,' his wife Aishwarya's upcoming Tamil film.

In all honesty, it sounds like he didn't put much thought into it. "Yo boys I am singing song, soup song, flop song,' is how Dhanush starts his song in the promotional video. That sets the tone for the rest of it.
