Yesteryear lyricist Anwar Farrukhabadi is dead

Noted poet Anwar Farrukhabadi, who penned popular Hindi film song Humein toh loot liya milke husn walon ne, has died. He was 83.

The poet breathed his last at his native place in Nakkhas in Farrukhabad yesterday. Anwar wrote around two thousand songs in Bollywood and for private albums. His songs have been imortalised in the voices of Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Pankaj Udhas, Shankar Shambhu and Sabir brothers among others.

Born in Nakkhas in 1928, the poet left for Mumbai in 1945 in search of better future and spent about 40 years there. Some of the films for which he wrote lyrics are Al Hilal, Mere Piya and Pardesi Sajan.
