Timothy Roemer says goodbye to India
June 30, 2011  10:23
Good morning and welcome to another day's Live News As It Happens.

News coming up first on Thursday morning is Timothy Roemer's departure from India. The former US ambassador to India, in his farewell speech, hoped that the cooperation between the two nations continues to prosper.

Roemer, the 21st US ambassador to India, was named by US President Barack Obama in July 2009 and took over his duties here in August that year.

During Roemer's two-year tenure, Obama came to India in November 2010, a significant bilateral event when several agreements were signed, including on nuclear energy and shale gas resources. The two countries also signed important defence deals such as the one for 10 Boeing C-17s heavy lift transport aircraft for $4.1 billion during Roemer's tenure.
