Setback for Mamata in SC over Singur land

The Supreme Court today asked the West Bengal government not to return land to farmers in Singur.

Calling it an interim protection, the apex court said the Calcutta high court will proceed with the main matter pending before it.

The Tatas had challenged West Bengal's decision to return the Singur land to villagers, acquired during the Left Front regime for the Tatas' still-born Nano project, before the Supreme Court after the high court refused to stay it.
