Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi today hailed the nomination of France's Christine Lagarde to head the IMF saying she was "best suited" to dealing with the current economic crisis.

Berlusconi, who was one of the first European leaders publicly to back the French finance minister's candidacy, congratulated her in a statement.
"I am convinced that she is the best suited in terms of professional qualities and experience to confront the current economic situation and make the best use of the IMF's potential to manage the crisis," he wrote.

Frankly, does Berlusconi's ratification really matter?
