Mayawati on rapes: Don't politicise issue

UP chief minister Mayawati goes on the defensive addressing a press conference in Lucknow even as the state registered its seventh rape in three days.

She said strict action would be taken against the accused and shielding them would not be tolerated. Appealing to opposition parties not politicise the issue, Mayawati said the BSP government has been successful in maintaining law and order. And of course that, media reports of the rapes were wrong, but doesn't elaborate.

She also promised fast track courts for rape cases.
