China nixes Jiang Zemin's death as 'pure rumour'

Yesterday we told you about rumours of former China President Jiang Zemin's death. In fact, there was intense speculation about his health for days.

Finally, China today dismissed the reports as "pure rumour". Speculation that the 84-year-old leader was seriously ill emerged when he failed to appear at celebrations marking the 90th anniversary of the Communist Party on July 1. Reports yesterday said Chinese government censoring news about his death.
