US backtracks: $700 mn aid to Pak won't be cut

Pakistan PM Yusuf Raza Gilani says under no circumstances will Pakistan accept flagrant transgression of territorial frontiers. Foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar said yesterday that Pakistan would retaliate against all drone attacks by the US.

Today, the Obama administration has said it has not cut any civilian aid to the country, noting the move in this regard was part of a defence bill in the Congress.

"We have not cut USD 700 million in aid to Pakistan," State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said. The clarification came after a Congressional panel agreed to freeze USD 700 million in aid to Islamabad, yesterday, linking it toIslamabad's efforts to control the spread of Improvised Explosive Devices, as part of a defence authorisation bill.
