Lokayukta battle: BJP MPs to meet Prez on Sept 2

Even as BJP MPs today said they would meet President Pratibha Patil on September 2 to demand the recall of the Gujarat governor over the Lokayukta appointment.

Meanwhile, dismissing the BJP's opposition to the appointment of the Lokayukta by Gujarat Governor bypassing the Chief Minister, the Centre today said as per the law, the governor is supposed to consult only the Chief Justice of the High Court and it should be left to the court to decide the issue.

"The act, as I understand, says the governor will consult the chief justice. You can't read things into it," Law Minister Salman Khurshid said.
