Arab Spring's windfall for UK's arms industry
August 29, 2011  12:39

There's an unexpected windfall from the Arab Spring, it seems.

An investigation by The Times, London, has found that Britain's arms exports to the Middle East and North Africa have grown by almost 30 per cent since the revolution.

Between February and June this, year, arms worth 30.5 million pounds were exported by Britain to countries including Libya, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, compared to 22.2 million in the same period in 2010.

Interestingly, the investigation found that the weapons exported include those capable of being used for internal repression, such as small-arms ammunition, sniper rifles, shotguns and submachine guns.
