August 03, 2011  13:22

Vicky Nanjappa reports that Rajnath Singh has just addressed the legislators and told them they need to stay united. He says that it is important in the larger interest of the party to have a consensus candidate .

Meanwhile, inside Hotel Capitol, the scene is tense. Leaders are aggressive about pushing their candidate and the pleas by senior leaders have fallen on deaf years.

Yeddys camp with 71 MLAs is now pushing for a secret ballot. Jaitley and Rajnath seem emotional as they say that the party should not be fractured and a secret ballot be avoided at any cost.
