'Dr LS is a genius and a wonderful, warm person'

That's how Kavita Krishnamurthy described Dr L Subramaniam, about a month before she married him, when she came for the Rediff Chat. Of course, she also talked about other things: her inspirations, dreams, challenges. And how she loves playing with her dogs in her spare time.

Kavita Krishnamurthy (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:45 IST)
Hello, I'm in and looking forward to this :-)

Someonesomewhere (Mon Oct 18 1999 4:27 IST)
Kavita, I want to ask you only one question -- that if you get a chance to sing ghazal with Jagjit Singh, what would be your reply?

Kavita Krishnamurthy (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:45 IST)
Someonesomewhere: It would be amazing and a step ahead for me in my musical career.

Sahil (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:29 IST)
Ms Kavita, why do people never compare you to Lata Mangeshkar?

Kavita Krishnamurthy (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:47 IST)
Sahil: She is an all-time great, yet I'm grateful if people don't compare me to anyone at all 'cos that means that I have some semblance of originality *grin*:-)

Insearch (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:47 IST)
Kavita, who is your favourite singer and musician?

Kavita Krishnamurthy (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:50 IST)
Insearch: Lata Mangeshkar is my favourite artiste.

Sonali (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:50 IST)
Which of the three Khans do you like the most?

Kavita Krishnamurthy (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:52 IST)
Sonali: If I have to say one name, then Aamir Khan, certainly Aamir Khan.

Sonali (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:51 IST)
Who is your favourite actress? (from the current batch -- ranging from Preity Zinta to Mads Dixit)?

Kavita Krishnamurthy (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:53 IST)
Sonali: Currently I like Kajol very much, she is very animated.

Sahil (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:53 IST)
Ms Krishnamurthy, are you involved in a lot of social service?

Kavita Krishnamurthy (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:56 IST)
Sahil: I have done a lot of charity performances and if convinced that an event or the organisation is genuine, I shall certainly continue to do so.

SonaliB (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:55 IST)
Which is your favourite film?

Radhika (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:55 IST)
Did you enjoy singing for Karisma in Hum Saath-Saath Hain?

Kavita Krishnamurthy (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:59 IST)
Radhika: Sure... SonaliB: Without wanting to be prejudiced, definitely Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Faisals (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:58 IST)
Why did you say that you always get the toughest songs to sing? Doesn't that mean you are among the finest and so you are entrusted with them?

Kavita Krishnamurthy (Mon Oct 18 1999 6:0 IST)
Faisals: Certainly I enjoy challenges, but once in a while I do believe that simple straight romantic melodies can touch your emotion. I too would like to participate in such songs.

Rajitha (Mon Oct 18 1999 5:58 IST)
Ms Krishnamurthy, which is the favourite song that you have sung? And which was your most difficult song?

Kavita Krishnamurthy (Mon Oct 18 1999 6:2 IST)
Rajitha: Favourite is 1942: A Love Story, and the most difficult, well that's difficult to say. Lots I guess, maybe Bombay's Tu hi re because of the range. And also the title song of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Shalinder (Mon Oct 18 1999 6:0 IST)
Kavitaji! I wonder if you remember me? I met you in Indianapolis when you came with Kumar Sanu. I visited you in your dressing room while you were with your mother there .

Kavita Krishnamurthy (Mon Oct 18 1999 6:5 IST)
Shalinder, how are you? Nice to hear from you after Indianapolis.

Rishikesh (Mon Oct 18 1999 6:9 IST)
Kavita: How do you maintain your voice? I mean I am shocked to see Lataji and Ashaji sing that well in their age. So, what is the secret of that wonderful voice of theirs and yours too? Do you eat lavang and elaichi?

Kavita Krishnamurthy (Mon Oct 18 1999 6:17 IST)
Rishikesh: I think sincerity helps, I'm careful about what I eat. Finally how well and how long we sing is in God's hands. Hats off to Lataji and Ashaji.
