Sensex under selling pressure, sheds 32 points

BSE Sensitive Index

Pivotals declined moderately at the Bombay Stock Exchange on the last day of the weekly trading cycle following squaring up of positions by operators today.

According to marketmen, besides select counters like Punjab Tractors, Arvind Mills, Zee Telefilms, there was not much activity witnessed in view of the weekly settlement. Software shares gained marginally while select pivotals dropped on speculative selling pressure, they said.

Reflecting the downtrend, the 30-scrip BSE Sensex opened at 3351.67 points, touched the day's high of 3375.23 points, but fell sharply below the psychological barrier of 3300 and touched day's low of 3288.47 points before closing at 3297.86 points, showing a net loss of 32.07 points from the previous close of 3329.93 points.

The broad-based BSE-100 index eased by 14.43 points to 1458.34 points as against Thursday's close of 1472.77 points.

The BSE-200 and Dollex indices also declined by 2.95 and 1.16 points to 337.37 and 132.13 points from the previous close of 340.32 and 133.29 points respectively.
