B-school in Bombay will boost investments, says US consul general

The presence of a major international business school in Bombay will help generate more investments in the metropolis. Bombay has become a dynamic centre of global finance and commerce activities, US Consul General Franklin Huddle said today.

After inaugurating the new campus of American School of Bombay at the Bandra-Kurla complex in Bombay, Huddle said that American investments in Maharashtra constitute more than half of the total investment in the country.

The city has the best infrastructure facilities, he said and added that Bombay was better than his native Washington DC in terms of power-cuts.

He said that the ASB will serve as a symbol of America's desire for strengthening bilateral ties with India. "Education has become globalised and we can learn from each other's experience," he added.

The new school built at the cost of $ 7 million, is a large, modern, four-storeyed structure whose architectural design is unlike that of any other school or college in Bombay, said school superintendent James A Mains. It is fully air-conditioned and includes a large multi-purpose hall, a basketball court and a stage for performances.

The staff and students are drawn from families of 24 different nationalities, most of whom are affiliated to many multinational corporations, banks and consulates located in Bombay. The presence of a major international school catering to these families attests the importance of Bombay as a bustling, energetic centre of global financial, commercial and diplomatic activity.

The school was started by a group of expatriate parents in a room in the American Consulate General at Bhulabhai Desai Road since 1981.

Later, it was shifted to Warden Road, spread out in three buildings.
