Heavy offloading marks end of settlement; Nifty down 21 points, 964.45

Share prices declined sharply on heavy offloading by bull operators, on the last day of the current settlement on the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the downturn, the S&P CNX Nifty Index slid by 21.15 points to 964.45 points from 985.60 of the previous day.

The CNX Nifty Junior crashed by 36.05 points to 1642.15 points, while the S&P CNX Defty eased by 17.15 points to 786.20 points.

The S&P CNX 500 index also moved down by 13.46 points to 664.78 points and CNX Midcap 200 closed 13.67 points lower at 583.13 points.

The total turnover, involving 100.96 million shares in 314,046 trades, was Rs 25.47 billion. The turnover in debentures was Rs 9.69 million.

Today, 852 securities declined, 262 gained, 82 remained unchanged while 55 securities hit their price bands today.

The net investment by foreign institutional investors and domestic institutions were Rs 174.9 million and Rs 122.1 million respectively.
