Naidu wants to make AP power-sufficient during Ninth Plan

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu says efforts are on to ensure an additional capacity of 8,268 MW during the Ninth Plan period, involving both public and private sector participation.

Addressing the Euromoney conference in New Delhi, he detailed the break-up: 1305 MW by state sector, 1515 MW by the central sector, 560 MW through joint ventures and 4888 MW by independent power producers. The additional capacity is to be generated at 12 different locations in the state.

He further stated that 12 sites have been identified for developing minor ports. In the development of roads, the state government plans to provide Rs 3.7 billion through various sources in the short run (Rs 1.85 billion from the World Bank, Rs 77 million from budgetary sources and Rs 40 million through road bonds). The money will be utilised for privatisation of different stretches of proposed toll expressways of 1,555 km.

Naidu told the conference that there are two dedicated infrastructure funds, one for meeting preliminary project definition expenses and the other for managing the privatisation chain.

Making a reference to his celebrated long-term policy of Vision 2020, he said the sectors of power, airports, roads and ports will receive utmost attention.
