Naveen Patnaik's BJD and the Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), will be among two Opposition parties to attend the inauguration of the new Parliament building on Sunday. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have also confirmed their attendance, apart from the Bahujan Samaj Part (BSP) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

Announcing the decision, BJD national spokesperson Sasmit Patra said, "BJD believes that these Constitutional institutions should be above any issue which can always be debated later. Hence, the BJD shall be a part of this momentous occasion."

The YSRCP also confirmed it will attend the event. The Centre only recently had approved the biggest-ever tranche of funds to Andhra Pradesh since the state's bifurcation in June 2014. Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has also largely remained in subtle support of the Centre's policies, joining the opposition only in select cases.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik's party confirmation has come after 19 Opposition parties announced in a joint statement to boycott the inauguration function. CM Naveen Patnaik is said to have a good personal relationship with PM Modi.
