Another soldier dies of gunshot wound at Bhatinda
April 13, 2023

Another soldier has died of a "gunshot wound" in Punjab's Bathinda, the Army said today, adding that the incident has "no link" to yesterday's shooting at an army base that left four soldiers dead.

The jawan died of a bullet injury as his service weapon went off accidentally. "The deceased jawan has been identified as Laghu Raj Shankar," said Gurdeep Singh, SHO, Bathinda Cantt Police Station.

Four Army jawans were shot and killed at Punjab's Bathinda military station in what officials have called a case of 'fratricide'. Police have ruled out a terror attack angle and the Army has identified the four slain soldiers, while also confirming a detailed investigation is underway.

The investigation will focus on several aspects, including an INSAS assault rifle and 28 bullets that went missing Monday.
