Sometimes it takes real intervention from the very top of the pecking order. Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma has asked that felling of trees be stopped immediately. The trees were cut to widen the road by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation.
"These images are indeed disturbing. I have asked NHIDCL to stop it immediately till we can find a better solution. We need to balance between development and environment," Sangma tweeted.
