Asked about the BJP's lack of a chief ministerial face for the Bengal assembly election, a BJP Lok Sabha MP told a Rediff contribtor last week that Swapan Dasgupta -- columnist and Rajya Sabha member -- is being spoken of in party circles as the likely chief minister if the BJP wins a majority. The probable party thinking is that a measured intellectual like Dasgupta will appeal to the Bengali bhadralok.
