April 22, 2021

A pointsman in Mumbai Division of Central Railway, Mayur Shelke, who  saved the life of a child who lost his balance while walking on a platform of Vangani railway station and fell on railway tracks, has been rewarded by the Ministry of Railways.

The railways has announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for pointsman Mayur Shelkhe.

Shelke grabbed the child on the track and put him and himself out of harms way within seconds of a train approaching.

Shelke however said he will give half of the amount to the family of the boy he rescued.

"I will give half the amount for that child's welfare and education. I came to know that his family isn't financially strong. So I decided this," Shelke said.
