Jharkhand polls in 5 phases from Nov 30

Jharkhand will go to the polls in a total of five phases starting from November 30, the Election Commission of India announced Friday. The results of all the phases will be announced on December 23. 

Phase-1: Polls on 30 November, phase 2: Polls on 7 December, phase 3: Polls on 12 December, phase 4: Polls on 16th December, phase 5: Polls on 20th December, and counting on 23rd December.

The term of the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly ends on January 5 next year.Chief Minister Raghubar Das-led BJP is hoping to retain power in the tribal-dominated state, where the saffron party won 37 seats in the 2014 Assembly elections. The BJP was able to form the government after six MLAs from ex-chief minister Babulal Marandi's party Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) joined the BJP soon after the elections. The JMM has 19 MLAs while Congress has eight legislators in the present Assembly.
