The Congress is unwilling to exploit Rahul Gandhi's pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar for political gains but hopes such ventures would blunt the BJP allegation that its secularism has an anti-Hindu tenor.



"Whatever controversy happened was because of the BJP's irrational attempt to link his tour to China. They scoffed at Rahul as a 'Chinese Gandhi'. We didn't want any public discourse on the subject," a party senior said. He recalled the BJP's rathyatras on the Ram temple issue and said the Congress didn't "use religion as political tool".
