INS Tarasa joins the Indian Navy
September 26, 2017

INS Tarasa, a patrol vessel of the Car Nicobar class of Indian Navy, was commissioned today at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai.

Built by the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, the INS Tarasa is a Water Jet Fast Attack Craft that will be used for anti-smuggling and search and rescue operations.

It is the last of the 10 patrol vessels built by the GRSE for the Indian Navy.

Launched in June 2016, the craft has undergone extensive sea trials before being handed over to the Navy.

The ship can do a maximum speed of 35 knots, which makes it ideal for intercepting fast-moving vessels, and is fitted with CRN-91 30mm guns.
