Turnbull's government loses 1-seat majority as court disqualifies dy PM

'Australia's ruling conservative coalition government was thrown into crisis on Friday after Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce was declared ineligible to sit in parliament because he was also a citizen of New Zealand when elected,' reports the South China Morning Post.   

The court verdict places the government of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in jeopardy, as it enjoys a one-seat majority in the lower house.   Soon after the verdict Joyce renounced his New Zealand citizenship, but he will have to re-contest the seat in a by-election.   

Till that happens, Turnbull's government is perched precariously, the saving grace being that the three independent lawmakers have pledged their support to him.
