EC to decide on AIADMK's Two Leaves symbol tomorrow
November 22, 2017

The Election Commission is likely pronounce its ruling on the dispute over the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's symbol, Two Leaves, on Thursday.

The verdict, keenly awaited by political parties in Tamil Nadu, will decide the future of three AIADMK factions belonging to O Panneerselvam, Edappadi K Palaniswami and TTV Dinakaran. For who gets the symbol will gain the upper hand in the internal power struggle in the party.

More importantly, the EC will also announce the dates for the RK Nagar assembly bypoll, whose outcome will indicate the ground-level support for the AIADMK.

The bypoll was caused by the death of its sitting MLA, former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, on December 5 last year. The bypoll was originally scheduled to be held on April 12 this year but was cancelled after the EC found large-scale misuse of money power.

The Madras high court, on Monday, directed the Election Commission to hold by the bypoll by December 31 this year.
