The mystery of what makes Narendra Damodardas Modi the brightest boy in class has almost been solved. Almost, because there are two contenders.

An effusive classmate called Amit Shah thinks the secret lies in self-less toil, exemplified by Modi's refusal to take even a single day's vacation in the past three years.

An enigmatic - if not mischievous - guru called Mohan Bhagwat believes the credit goes to the "aprasidh (not-so-famous)" journey Modi had undertaken en route to his "ujjwal (bright)" future. The " aprasidh" reference was seen as a reminder of the gurukul called the RSS, for which Modi was once a pracharak.  Read more
