Revoking its earlier order, the Centre has declared Pongal as compulsory holiday for central government employees in Tamil Nadu.

Earlier, Centre's decision to remove Pongal from its list of compulsory holidays to optional holidays triggered sharp reactions from all political parties in the state. 

While AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala had expressed her shock over the decision, the DMK announced an agitation against the Centre's move.
