Modi tweets Gujarati new year greetings

The Gujarati community all over the world is today celebrating their new year, ie, Bestu Varas. The community celebrates the New Year after Diwali to mark the beginning of a new fiscal year.

Greeting people on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet hoped that the New Year will bring happiness, prosperity and good health for the people.

"Today, a day after Diwali, Gujaratis mark the start of a New Year. Saal Mubarak to Gujaratis across the world. May this be a joy filled year," the prime minister tweeted.

The day is of special significance for traders and businessmen as it marks the beginning of a financial year for them and hence, new ledgers are opened on this day.
