Srinagar school apologises after teacher sacked for wearing abaya
June 19, 2016

Days after a Delhi Public School teacher in Srinagar was sacked for wearing an 'abaya' to school, the institution today apologised for "unintentionally hurting sentiments".

The Jammu and Kashmir government has maintained that the state is a multi-religious, multi-cultural and a secular entity.

"It is a private school. We will contact the management and try to get to the truth," Education Minister Naeem Akhtar told the state assembly.

The female teacher working at DPS in Srinagar had resigned after the school management asked her to "choose between her job and abaya".
