AIADMK MLAS to meet at 6 pm, OPS likely to be elected CM

Television channel Times Now is reporting that 135 MLAs have signed a declaration backing O Panneerselvam to replace Jayalalithaa as chief minister.

AIADMK MLAs are meeting at the party headquarters in Royapettah, Chennai, at 6 pm today to elect the legislative party leader.

Once a tea stall owner, Panneerselvam, 63, held two key portfolios of Finance and Public Works in the Jayalalithaa ministry. 

Panneerselvam is the first man from the Thevar community to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. 

Representing Bodinayakanur Assembly constituency in Theni District in the current assembly, Pannerselvam has risen from humble origins.
