September 04, 2015

Two pots containing ancient coins dating back to the 10th century AD were today unearthed during foundation work for a building at Veeraganur village in the district, an official said.

The copper coins, weighing 60 kg, were found when workers were digging the site for laying the foundation for a shop in the bus stop, Gangavalli thasildhar Kumar told PTI.

The coins had a picture of Chola King Rajaraja Cholan on one side and that of a God in a sitting posture on the other side, he said. The coins have been taken to the thasildhar office.
