Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the attack on army camp in Kupwara today. Jaish is viewed as the "deadliest" and "the principal terrorist organisation in Jammu and Kashmir" and has been designated as a terrorist organisation by Australia, Canada, India, the UAE, the UK, the US and the UN.
Three militants and a civilian was killed when at least 35 militants
attacked an army camp in the Tangdhar area in north Kashmirs Kupwara
district on Wednesday morning.
It was a standoff attack at 6:15 am by a
group of terrorists who fired weapons, including underbarrel grenade
launchers, towards the rear location of the camp due to which some
vehicles caught fire and were damaged and two individuals suffered
injuries, sources said. A defence spokesman told Rediff.com that three AK-47 rifles were recovered. "The operation is still in progress," he added.
The attack came close on the heels of an ongoing anti-militant operation in the nearby forests of Manigah in the same district.
