May 04, 2015

Nepal's ambassador to India, Deep Upadhyay, on his government asking all foreign rescue workers to return home. "Rescue work has been accomplished, that's why the government has requested countries to go back. We are saying thanks to the international community and asking them to prepare for return," he said.

When asked about NDRF teams been told to return to India, Upadhyay said, "Rescue work doesn't continue all the time, it's supposed to have been accomplished by now. Army and police will only need the equipment. We thank the Government of India, within six to seven hours all necessary equipment had reached Kathmandu."

He also rubbished reports saying Nepal was the unhappy with India and the Indian media's coverage of India's search and rescue efforts in Nepal. "Not at all, who is saying this? Be positive," he said.

The Nepal government has asked hundreds of foreign rescue workers to leave the quake-hit country as immediate relief has already been provided and the remaining tasks will be carried out by its army and police. The major rescue work in Kathmandu and surrounding areas is over and the remaining operations can be handled by local workers, Information Minister Minendra Rijal said.
