March 10, 2015

The Modi government has made significant changes in the controversial Land Acquisition Bill as it seeks to garner support from an Opposition which has opposed it as being "anti-farmer". It moved nine amendments, including doing away with exemption to social infrastructure projects in Public-Private Partnership mode, reports NDTV.

The original Act requires the consent of 70 per cent of farmers in the area where land is to be acquired for Public-Private Partnership projects.
