Government cancels registration of 4,470 NGOs
June 09, 2015

The crackdown on NGOs in India has become even more severe after the government cancelled the registration of 4,470 NGOs. In the recent past, the Modi government has tightened the nooze around NGOs. Last Tuesday, the home ministry was asked to scrutinise foreign-funded NGOs based on recommendations of Intelligence Bureau.

The move comes amid criticism faced by PM Narendra Modi over his clampdown on foreign-funded NGOs. The US-based Ford Foundation, one of the biggest non-profit organisations across the world, was put on a watch list by home ministry.
