After completing passport formalities, Geelani says: By birth I'm not Indian
June 05, 2015
Syed Ali Geelani's passport formalities are over. Speaking to reporters outside the passport office in Srinagar, Geelani says, "By birth I am not Indian."

Geelani was reacting to remarks made on his passport issue that he should first apologise for his anti-India activities and accept that he was an Indian before the home ministry should accept his application. The BJP had said that Geelani should first declare loyalty and fly out later.

The Hurriyat leader had sought a passport to visit his daughter Farhat Jabeen Geelani, who is admitted in a hospital in Saudi Arabia in a critical condition.

On May 22, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed that Geelani can fly out and the government has no objections to it.
