Watching the Patel agitation in Gujarat, while living in Kerala, creates mixed emotions. The violence, especially the police brutality, is repugnant. The Indian state looks ugly whenever, wherever, and for whatever reason, it brutalizes the unarmed citizen. At least one custodial death has come to light from a police station so far.
