Over 1 lakh birds culled in Telangana after bird flu outbreak
April 16, 2015

More than one lakh poultry birds have been culled in the last three days within 1 km radius of Thorrur village in Telangana, the epicentre of the bird flu outbreak, a senior official said today.

Initially, it was thought that the total poultry population in this "infected zone" was 1.45 lakh but officials now say it may even go up to 1.6 lakh. A farm in Thorrur village in Ranga Reddy district on the city outskirts is the "ground zero" of the outbreak.
