India, Pak agree on civilian shield

The Indian and Pakistani armies are said to have reached an understanding at a flag meeting on the Line of Control that they will not shoot at civilians even if they cannot stop all ceasefire violations immediately.

Brigadier Sanjay Thakran of India and Brigadier Atif Dar of Pakistan met at the Chakan da Bagh crossing on the LoC yesterday.

In talks that went on for three hours, each side showed maps to the other alleging sector-by-sector violations.
