Viswanathan Anand on Thursday drew the ninth game against defending champion Magnus Carlsen. 

The 20-move game was the shortest of this year's World Chess Championship.

With the draw, Carlsen leads the championship 5-4, with three more games to go.

Anand, who is looking for his sixth world title, had lost to Carlsen in Chennai last year.
