Prominent Shia cleric asks PM to support Iraq against ISIL

Responding to latest developments in Iraq, prominent Shia Cleric Maulana Agha Roohi Abqati today said India should support the Iraqi government in its fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant militants.

In a statement issued here, the cleric appealed to all to stand with the people of Iraq and to raise their voices against the growing danger of terrorism.

"India is always against terrorism so I appeal to the prime minister and the foreign minister that they should criticise the ISIL and terrorism in Iraq... Indian government should support the Iraqi government," the cleric said.
